Brown Regains Eligibility for Terp Women's Basketball Team

December 21, 1998

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - University of Maryland women's basketball coach Chris Weller announced today the return of junior point guard Tiffany Brown, who has missed the first semester of play due to academic ineligibility. Brown makes her 1998-99 debut tomorrow evening when Maryland hosts No. 15 Rutgers at First National Bank of Maryland Court at Cole Field House. Tipoff is 7:30 p.m.

Brown, the Terrapins' leading returning scorer from a year ago and Maryland's career 3-point champion, averaged 7.3 points and 3.0 assists during her sophomore campaign a year ago. She is Maryland's career 3-point leader with 84 treys in two seasons.

A starter in 31 college games, Brown averaged 8.6 points as a freshman out of Elizabeth Seton High School. She scored a school-record seven 3-pointers and a career-high 26 points in last season's upset win over No. 7 North Carolina in a nationally-televised game from Cole Field House.

She returns to a predominantly-freshmen Terrapin lineup that is still seeking its first win and has scored just one 3-point field goal in its last six games. The Terps are 0-8 and averaging 26 turnovers per game, sorely in need both of leadership and an experienced point guard.

Rutgers, 8-2, is ranked No. 15 by the Associated Press and No. 13 in the ESPN/USA Today coaches poll.
