Women's Tennis Knocks off No. 28 Georgia Tech, 5-4

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - For the second time in two days, the doubles team of junior Stacy Walkowitz (Coral Springs, Fla./Coral Springs) and sophomore Chrissie Terrill (Plano, Tex./The Hockaday School) took the Maryland women's tennis on their backs and carried them to a critical ACC win; this time over No. 28 Georgia Tech, 5-4.

After moving to the campus' Tennis Bubble due to a torrential downpour with two matches to go, the No. 41 Terps were forced into a tie, leaving the No. 2 team of Walkowitz and Terrill to decide the match. Yesterday, the duo held of a Clemson pair to gain a 5-4 win for Maryland and this afternoon, they won a tie-breaker in four points to get the victory.

In singles, only the top three positions were winners for the Terrapins. Senior Meg Griffin (Topeka, Kan./Topeka West) and junior Lorraine Bittles (Nashville, Tenn./Brentwood Academy) both won in straight sets while Walkowitz took three for her win.

Senior Adrienne Pavelko (Vienna, Va./Bishop O'Connell) and freshman Courtney Perkins (Seattle, Wash./Mt. Ranier) were the other doubles winner on the afternoon.

Maryland improves to 10-4, 2-1 in the ACC and extends its perfect home-win record to five matches. Georgia Tech falls to 11-6, 2-3 in the ACC.

Maryland hits the road this week, traveling to Virginia on April 7, North Carolina on the 10th and Duke on the 11th.
