WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Maryland sophomore attack Allison Comito tallied six goals and three assists, and sophomore attack Jen Adams added five goals and two assists, to lead the top-ranked Terrapins to a 21-9 victory against the eighth-ranked Georgetown Hoyas in women's lacrosse action on Wednesday at Kehoe Field.
Maryland's Quinn Carney put the Terps on the board first when she picked up a feed from Comito just 1:16 into the game. The combination was reversed on the next shot, with Comito finding the back of the net off a Carney assist to give Maryland a 2-0 lead with 26:47 on the clock. Georgetown's Sheehan Stanwick answered for the Hoyas at the 26:09 mark with an unassisted goal. The Terrapins reeled off the next three goals to take a 5-1 lead. Junior midfielder Kristin Sommar struck at 24:26 off a pass from Adams. Comito then notched her second and third goals of the game at the 21:54 and 18:48, respectively. Sommar was credited with the assist on the latter goal. Freshman attack Erin Elbe stepped up with a goal with 16:54 to go in the first period to make the score 5-2. Junior attack Jordan Keating made it 5-3 a minute later with an unassisted score. Adams then fired a shot past GU goalie Bowen Holden with 15:47 on the clock. Not but four minutes later, Carney struck again to push Maryland's lead to four points (7-3). Terp junior midfielder Christie Jenkins assisted on Adams' goal, while sophomore Courtney Martinez picked up the assist on Carney's tally. The two teams exchanged goals and Georgetown eventually cut the lead to 8-6, but it would be as close as the Hoyas would come in the first half, as Adams posted two more goals and sophomore Meghan McNamara and Comito had one goal apiece to give the Terrapins a 12-6 halftime lead.
Maryland opened up the second half with five consecutive goals to quickly take a 17-6 lead with 14:21 remaining in the game. Sommar and Jenkins scored on unassisted goals then Adams registered her fourth and fifth of the day with Comito getting the assist on the first tally. Carney registered a hat trick with her third goal, Maryland's 17th, at 14:21. Comito, freshman Courtney Hobbs and Jenkins posted Maryland's last four goals, with Hobbs credited with two, one off a free position shot.
Maryland junior goalkeeper Alex Kahoe turned away 14 shots on goal while allowing the nine goals while GU keeper Holden rejected nine Maryland shots while allowing 21 goals.
The Terrapins improve to 13-0 overall while Georgetown fell to 7-5. The Terps host William & Mary on Wed., April 21, at 4 p.m. The Terps earned the top seed in next weekend's ACC Tournament and will meet the fourth-seed North Carolina Tar Heels on Sat., April 24, at 1 p.m. in Chapel Hill, N.C.
