Maryland Sweeps Delaware In Volleyball Tournament

COLLEGE PARK, MD - Junior outside hitter Nnenna Amobi (Silver Spring, Md.) blasted 13 kills, leading Maryland (6-5) to a 15-5, 15-8, 15-8 win over Delaware (2-7) in the first day of action at the Maryland Tournament. In the other match, sophomore Debra Robinson posted 20 kills and senior Petia Yanchulova turned in 32 digs, leading San Diego (5-2) to a 15-4, 15-10, 16-18, 15-13 win over Georgetown (8-2).

Amobi had 13 kills in 22 attempts and committed just two errors on her way to hitting .500 for the match. She also turned in four blocks (one solo, three assisted). Senior Beth Murphy (Golden, Colo.) posted 12 kills and senior Kate Hannas (Ellicott City, Md.) had a match-high 14 digs. The Blue Hens were paced by Jessica Bjornstad's 23 assists and Jennifer Wanner's nine kills.

In addition to her 32 digs, Yanchulova posted 11 kills, giving her 1510 kills for her career. That breaks the Tereros' school record of 1503, which was set by LaManda Mounts. Georgetown was paced by Kiran Gill, who had a match-high 23 kills, and Kim Adams, who had 23 digs.

Tomorrow at the Maryland Tournament, Maryland faces San Diego at 11 a.m. and Georgetown at 7 p.m. Delaware faces Georgetown at 1:30 p.m. and San Diego at 4:30 p.m.
