Maryland Volleyball Team Drops Two Matches in Maryland Tournament

The University of Maryland volleyball team (6-7) dropped both its matches in the Maryland Tournament today at Ritchie Coliseum, falling to tournament champion San Diego (7-2) 15-3, 15-0, 15-8 and runner-up Georgetown (10-2) 7-15, 15-8, 15-8, 15-5. San Diego won the team title by also knocking off Delaware (2-9) 15-3, 11-15, 15-8, 15-10, while Georgetown clinched second place by also defeating Delaware 15-9, 15-3, 15-13.

Maryland was paced by junior middle hitter Nnenna Amobi (Silver Spring, Md.), who had eight kills against San Diego and nine against Georgetown. She was the lone Terp named to the all-tournament team.

In winning the tournament, San Diego was paced by Katie Linquist and Petia Yanchulova, both of whom earned all-tournament honors, and Debra Robertson, who was named the MVP. Yanchulova had 16 kills against Maryland and 26 against Delaware. With 48 assists against Delaware, Linquist became San Diego's all-time career assist leader.

For Georgetown, Lauren Warner and Kiran Gill were both named to the all-tournament team. Warner had 17 kills against Maryland and 13 against Delaware. Gill had 13 kills against Maryland and 14 against Delaware.

The Blue Hens were led by Cameo Neeman's 15 kills against San Diego and Jennifer Wanner's 13 kills against Georgetown.

Maryland's next match is Friday against NC State at Ritchie Coliseum at 7 p.m.
