COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Freshman outside hitter
Carey Brennan (Smithsburg, Md.) and senior
outside hitter Beth Murphy (Golden, Colo.) each
posted 15 kills and sophomore setter Libby Alberts
(Eden Prairie, Minn.) tallied 51 assists, leading
Maryland (1-0) to a 15-5, 15-4, 6-15, 15-11 win over
Villanova (0-1) tonight at Ritchie Coliseum.
The Terps appeared on their way to an easy night as they swept through the
first two games 15-5 and 15-4. The visiting Wildcats, however, captured the
third game 15-6 and raced out to a 9-3 lead in the fourth game. From there,
however, Maryland went on a 12-2 tear to pull out the victory.
Brennan hit .353 on the night (15-3-34) to lead all Maryland players. Murphy
and Alberts turned in 16 digs each. Senior Kate Hannas (Ellicott City, Md.) had
11 kills and junior Nnenna Amobi (Silver Spring, Md.) posted 10 kills.
For Villanova, Stacey Moline posted 24 assists, Breen Eddinger recorded 10
kills and Tina Zitterich turned in 12 kills.
Maryland travels to the Penn State Classic this weekend for three games,
starting first with a Friday match against Bradley on Friday at 11 a.m.
