COLLEGE PARK,Md. -- The women's tennis team captured its first dual match win of the season today in the Tennis Bubble. The Terps defeated the Missouri Tigers 7-2.
Leading the team were freshmen Delila Causevic (Silver Spring, Md.) and Jessica Johnson (Pittsburgh, Pa.). Causevic competed in the No. 1 spot defeating Missouri's Kristina Olshanskaya 6-1, 6-2. Johnson followed with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Andrea Friedman. Causevic and Johnson teamed up in doubles to defeat Olshanskaya and Joni Jordan 8-4.
Juniors Catherine Valantin (Metz, France) and Chrissie Terrill (Plano, Tex.) and senior Stacy Walkowitz (Coral Springs, Fla.) also racked up their first dual match wins of the season. Valantin beat Marina Zelenovic 6-2, 6-2. Terrill continued the Terp winning streak with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Caitlin Thompson. Walkowitz won by a score of 6-2, 6-3 over Jordan in the No. 5 position. Junior duo Terrill and Valantin captured the last win of the day by defeating Thompson and Julie Thomas 8-4.
The Terps next home match is Saturday, Feb. 5 against West Virginia at 1 p.m. in the Tennis Bubble.
