LEWISBURG, Pa. - The University of Maryland claimed eight of the 10 bouts en route to a 31-6 victory over Bucknell in college wrestling action on Sunday afternoon.
Bucknell won the first two bouts of the match to take a 6-0 lead, but the Terps claimed the next eight weight classes on their way to the victory.
Freshmen Bob Vorhies (Morris Knolls, N.J.), at 197, and Jeremy Duncan (Platte City, Mo.), at heavyweight, evened the match through four matches after starting at the 174-pound weight class. Vorhies won a thrilling 7-3 sudden death decision over Carl Perrone and Duncan dominated Brian Falciglia, 8-1.
At 133, Brandon York (Gaithersburg, Md.) continued another strong season with a 9-4 win against Tommy Doerr. Mark Mansueto (West Chester, Pa.) followed with a major decision over Rocky Miller, 13-5.
Senior co-captain Grant Newman (Chesapeake City, Md.) posted his team-high fourth dual win of the season at 149 pounds with a victory over Adam Webb, 7-4. Rob Booth (Atco, N.J.) capped off the Terrapin victory at 157 by a 4-2 score.
Bucknell also forfeited at 125 and 165 pounds.
The Terps (3-2, 2-2) next compete in the Congressional Cup at American University in Washington, D.C. on Feb. 6.
