Carla Tagliente: Honda Award Nominee

Nov. 27, 2000

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland senior midfielder and four time All-American Carla Tagliente (Cortland, N.Y.) is one of four Division I student-athletes nominated for the 2000-01 Honda Award, given annually to the top athlete in each of 12 women's college sports. The winner of the Honda Award in each sport is then an eligible candidate for the Honda-Broderick Cup, awarded to the "most outstanding collegiate woman athlete of the year." Tagliente joins a talented list of field hockey players from around the NCAA: Penn State's Traci Anselmo, Old Dominion's Marina DiGiacomo and Michigan's Kelli Gannon.

Senior women's administrators at NCAA institutions vote to select the winner, which will be announced December 5. With the nomination, the Honda Awards Program donates $1,000 to the university athletic fund in August of 2001.
