NOTRE DAME, Ind.--
The women's tennis team broke its winning streak Friday, losing to 17th-ranked Notre Dame 9-0 in Indiana. Notre Dame lost only one set to 39th-ranked Maryland at the Eck Tennis Pavilion.
The Terps dynamic freshmen duo of Delila Causevic (Silver Spring, Md.) and Jessica Johnson (Pittsburg, Pa.) lost their first matches of the season. Causevic fell 7-5, 7-6 to 14th-ranked Michelle Dasso. Johnson then battled Becky Varnum at the No. 2 position before losing the match 1-6, 7-5, 6-3. Notre Dame claimed the next three matches to clinch the win. Kelly Zalinski defeated Catherine Valantin (Metz, France) 6-3, 6-2 and Chrissie Terril lost 6-3, 6-4 to Lindsey Green in the No. 4 position. Kimberly Guy defeated Stacy Walkowitz (Coral Springs, Fla.) 6-3, 6-2.
In doubles competition Causevic/Johnson fell 8-3 to 10th-ranked Dasso/Varnum. Fifteenth-ranked Katie Cunha and Guy defeated Terrill/Valantin 8-4.
The Terps are back in action on Saturday at 10 a.m. against 47th-ranked Illinois. Notre Dame will face Illinois on Sunday at 11 a.m.
