COLLEGE PARK, Md.-- The women's tennis team (2-0, 0-0 ACC) captured its second regular season win against Big East opponent West Virginia 7-2. Saturday's home match was played in Cumberland, Md. As the Terps continue to turn in strong performances, this year's team is beginning to shine.
Filling the No. 1 and 2 singles positions are freshmen Delila Causevic (Silver Spring, Md.) and Jessica Johnson (Pittsburg, Pa.) respectively. Causevic set the pace by defeating Ellie Earles 6-2, 6-3. Johnson won by a score of 7-5, 6-3 against West Virginia's Shannon Price. Junior Catherine Valantin (Metz, France) earned a victory in the No. 3 spot over Meghan Cornwall 6-2, 6-2. Rounding out the lineup were junior Chrissie Terrill (Plano, Tex.) and senior Stacy Walkowitz (Coral Springs, Fla.). Terrill beat Anna Maria Underwood 6-1, 6-1 and Walkowitz defeated Emma Jereiejczyk 3-6, 6-3, 7-5.
In doubles competition, Causevic/Johnson defeated Earles/Price 8-3. Duo Terrill/Valantin also notched a win against Cornwall/Tracy Wolfe 8-1.
The Terps are back in action Sunday at 1 p.m. in the Tennis Bubble in College Park, Md.
