COLLEGE PARK, Md.- The women's tennis team (5-5, 0-1 ACC) faced its first ACC opponent Saturday when it met 20th-ranked Florida State in the College Park Tennis Bubble. The Seminoles defeated the Terrapins with a 9-0 victory.
Freshman Delila Causevic (Silver Spring, Md.) competed in the No. 1 spot and lost 6-1, 7-5 to Florida State's Alida Gallovits. In the No. 2 position, freshman Jessica Johnson (Pittsburgh, Pa.) dropped a 6-1, 7-5 decision to Nanette Duxin. Kia Asberg defeated senior Stacy Walkowitz (Coral Springs, Fla.) in the No. 3 spot. Both Maryland juniors were also defeated in the Nos. 4 and 5 positions. Catherine Valantin (Metz, France) fell 7-6, 6-2 to Jessica Balbuena and Marina Raic defeated Chrissie Terrill (Plano, Tex.) 6-2, 6-2.
The Seminoles gained two victories over the Terps in doubles competition. Gallovits/Duxin defeated Johnson/Walkowitz 8-6 in the No. 1 position. Terrill/Valantin dropped an 8-2 match to Balbuena and Ali Weber.
The Terps will continue a four-match homestand against Kansas on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in College Park.
