COLLEGE PARK, Md.- The women's tennis team (6-5, 0-1 ACC) battled hard against the Kansas Jayhawks for a 6-3 home victory. The Terps came out strong winning the first five singles matches and one doubles match to secure Tuesday's win in College Park. This is the first time in the four-match series that the Terps have defeated the Jayhawks.

At the top of the line-up, freshman Delila Causevic (Silver Spring, Md.) earned a 6-4, 6-1 win against Jayhawks senior Brooke Chiller. In the No. 2 position, freshman Jessica Johnson (Pittsburgh, Pa.) won her seventh match of the season when she defeated Cheryl Mallaiah 6-4, 6-2. Johnson continues to lead the team in singles victories. Senior Stacy Walkowitz (Coral Springs, Fla.) followed with a grueling three-set win over Monica Sekulov 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. Juniors Catherine Valantin (Metz, France) and Chrissie Terrill (Plano, Tex.) each racked up wins against the Jayhawks, helping to the bring the Terps out of a slump in which they have won only two of their last seven matches. Valantin defeated Tiffany Chang with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 decision. Kansas' Christi Wagenaar dropped a 6-1, 6-4 match to Terrill in the final singles match of the day.

Johnson and Walkwitz teamed up for their first doubles win of the season defeating Chiller and Chang 8-4 in the No. 1 spot. Competing as a pair for the first time, Causevic and Valantin fell 8-5 to Sekulov and Wagenaar at No. 2.

The Terps four-match homestand ends on Saturday when they meet the Tribe of William & Mary in College Park at 10:30 a.m. The Tribe is currently ranked 11th nationally with a 12-5 record. The Terps fell 5-1 to the Tribe in 1999 when the two teams met in Williamsburg, Va.
