Women's Tennis Completes Second Day at ACC Indoors

Terps Defeat Wolfpack 5-4

RALEIGH, N.C. - The women's tennis team (8-9, 2-5 ACC) defeated the NC State Wolfpack today in Raleigh by a close 5-4 decision. Despite having to forfeit three matches, the Terps held the Wolfpack (5-14, 0-8 ACC) to only one win. Freshman Jessica Johnson (Pittsburgh, Pa.) closed out her regular season with a team-high 12 singles victories. The Terps end the regular season on a high note and look to compete in the ACC Championships in Atlanta, Ga. on April 20-23.

Johnson defeated Brie Glover 6-2, 6-5 in the No. 2 spot, securing her position as one of Maryland's most consistent players. Freshman Delila Causevic (Silver Spring, Md.) earned her 11th victory on the season when she won 6-0, 6-4, 6-1 over Marissa Gildemeister. Causevic and Johnson competed together in the No. 1 doubles position but defaulted the match to Brie Glover and Myrna Bawono. Senior Stacy Walkowitz (Coral Springs, Fla.) won at the No. 3 singles with a 6-5, 7-6 decision over Bawono. Junior Chrissie Terrill (Plano, Tex.) defeated Loni Worsley 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 4 position. Walkowitz and Terrill earned their third consecutive doubles win today when they defeated Gildemeister and Worsley 8-1 at No. 2.

The ACC Tournament will be held in Atlanta, Ga. next weekend. The tournament begins on Thursday, April 20 and ends on Sunday, April 23. Seedings will be announced at a later time.
