Duke Downs Maryland in ACC Quarterfinals

Norcross, Ga. - The women's tennis team ended its season today at the Racquet Club of the South when it fell 5-0 to the Duke Blue Devils in the quarterfinal round of the ACC Championships. The Terps were handicapped with only four players competing after losing Catherine Valantin (Metz, France) to a pulled muscle in her leg. With Maryland forfeiting three matches, the Blue Devils began the match with a three-point lead. Duke captured the match-winning points at the Nos. 1 and 3 singles positions. Duke's Megan Miller defeated freshman Delila Causevic (Silver Spring, Md.) 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1. Senior Stacy Walkowitz (Coral Springs, Fla.) dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision to Katie Granson in the No. 3 singles spot.

No. 2 seed Duke advances to the semifinals where they will meet No. 3 seed Clemson at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 22. Maryland finishes the 2000 season with an 8-11 overall record and 2-8 in the ACC.
