College Park, Md. - The Maryland wrestling team (1-1, 0-0 ACC) lost its first home match of the season Wednesday when it fell 27-13 to the Navy Midshipmen (4-4) in Ritchie Coliseum. Navy came to College Park after having been defeated 22-15 by No. 10 Lehigh on Jan. 12. The Terps had an 11-day hiatus after taking third place at the Millersville Belles Invitational before they met Navy.

The meet began with the 184-pound weight class as determined by a random draw. The Terps earned four victories, including one by 133-pound junior Brandon York (Gaithersburg, Md.). York now has 18 wins this season and is ranked No. 20 by Amateur Wrestling News.

Redshirt-sophomore Jake Stork (Mohrsville, Pa.) garnered the Terps first win when he defeated Jim Letchford 9-4. This victory boosts Stork's record to 14 wins on the season. Sophomore Bob Vorhies (Morris Knolls, N.J.) battled through a tough match at 197 with Michael Bigrigg who is currently ranked No. 20 by Amateur Wrestling News. Bigrigg defeated Vorhies 12-4. After losing a tough match at heavyweight, the Terps fought back to earn two victories at 125 and 133. Redshirt-junior Joe Guzzio (Greensboro, N.C.) defeated Jonathan Padgett 12-6. York followed with a 14-6 victory over Jason Holmstead. Junior Mark Mansueto (West Chester, Pa.) and redshirt-sophomore Bryan Robinovitz (Belle Mead, N.J.) were both pinned by their opponents at 141 and 149 respectively. Junior Rob Booth (Atco, N.J.) was defeated 9-6 in the 157-pound weight class.

Junior co-captain Josh Weidman (Hershey, Pa.) leads the team in victories with 19 after defeating Dan Hemminger 3-2 in a tight match at 167. Sal Aquia (Baltimore, Md.) faced Mark Newman, who is ranked No. 19 at 174 by InterMat, and fell 13-2 in the last bout of the day.

Maryland continues its four-match homestand when it squares off against the Wolfpack on Jan. 20 in the first ACC match of the season. The match is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m. NC State is currently 4-6 overall and 0-1 in the ACC after losing 16-14 to North Carolina on Jan. 16. The Terps continue to wrestle at home when they take on local-rival George Mason on Jan. 24 and Bucknell on Jan. 27. All home meets are held in Ritchie Coliseum.
