Maryland Routs Bucknell 35-7

Jan. 27, 2001

College Park, Md. - The Maryland wrestling team (2-3, 0-1 ACC) garnered its first home dual win of the season with a 35-7 rout over the Buckell Bison (7-5, 2-1 EIWA) Saturday in Ritchie Coliseum. Maryland controlled the meet with stellar performances in seven weight classes. Redshirt-sophomore Jake Stork (Mohrsville, Pa.) has emerged as a fierce competitor, earning his ninth pin on the season. Junior co-captain, and two-time ACC champion, Brandon York (Gaithersburg, Md.) captured his 21st season victory, boosting his dual record to 4-0. York's win against Bucknell also marks his 10th consecutive victory. The dual meet began with the 197-pound weight class as determined by a random draw and was only one of two wins by the Bison.

The Bison picked up their first win when Brian Falciglia defeated sophomore Bob Vorhies (Morris Knolls, N.J.) 2-0 at 197. Freshman James Taylor (Pasadena, Md.) earned his second fall on the season when he pinned Carl Perrone in :31 at heavyweight. The Bison forfeited the bout at 125 putting Maryland up 12-3 after three weight classes. York defeated Andrew Bernstein 10-3 at 133, allowing his opponent only three escape points. Junior Mark Mansueto (West Chester, Pa.) came out strong and never lost his lead during three periods against Jeremy Weller at 141. The final score was a major 20-7 decision in Mansueto's favor. This boosts his dual record to 3-2 and 18-7 overall.

Redshirt-sophomore Bryan Robinovitz (Belle Mead, N.J.) picked up his second dual meet win with a close 3-2 decision over Tommy Doerr in the 149-pound weight class. Junior Rob Booth (Atco, N.J.) improved to 11 wins on the season with a major 12-3 decision, with 4:19 in advantage time, over Mike Saunders at 157. Junior co-captain Josh Weidman (Hershey, Pa.) earned his 21st season win, a tie for team-high with York, with a 5-1 victory over Ryan Fasnacht at 165 pushing Maryland ahead of Bucknell 29-3. At 184, Ben Chunko defeated redshirt-sophomore Sal Aquia (Baltimore, Md.) 13-3, earning the Bison their final win of the day. Stork gave another impressive performance at Ritchie when he pinned his ninth opponent this season, a team-high, and boosted his dual record to 5-0, another team-high. Stork pinned Brian Neuman in 5:41 to give the Terps a final score of 35-7.

Prior to the beginning of the dual, freshman Patrick Cissne (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) wrestled an exhibition match against Bucknell's Andy Herbert. Cissne won by a 2:18 fall over Herbert.

The Terps hit the road next week to square off against Rutgers on Jan. 31 at 7:00 p.m. in New Brunswick, N.J. The Terps will not return home again until Feb. 14 when they wrestle ACC-opponent Virginia at 7:30 p.m. The match will be held in Ritchie Coliseum.
