ATLANTA, Ga.- The Maryland volleyball team lost a hard-fought, five-game decision at Georgia Tech Friday night (2-3) 26-30, 30-25, 30-27, 24-30, 8-15 in Atlanta. The Terps won two of the match's first three games before dropping the final two games to the host Yellow Jackets.
Sophomore outside hitter Maria DiLivio (Hamilton, Ontario) had an outstanding match, finishing with team-highs in kills (17) and hitting percentage (.325). Junior outside hitter Carey Brennan (Smithsburg, Md.) also had a strong night, finishing with 16 kills and a team-best 16 digs. It was the ninth double-double of the season for Brennan who also totaled three blocks on the night.
Junior setter Lindsay Davey (Aurora, Colo.) handed out 54 assists along with 14 digs for the Terps. Four Maryland players finished in double-digit kills including senior middle hitter Willette Dority (Congers, N.Y.), sophomore right side Lynnsy Jones (Castro Valley, Calif.) along with DiLivio and Brennan.
Dority, the ACC's leader in hitting percentage, racked up 11 kills and a team-best four blocks along with seven digs while Jones finished with 15 kills, two service aces and five digs for the Terrapins.
The loss dropped the Terps to 7-8 overall and 3-4 in the ACC while the Yellow Jackets improved to 9-4 on the season and 5-2 in conference play.
The Terps return to action Saturday at Clemson. The Terrapins and Tigers are set to tangle at 6 p.m. in Jervey Gym.
