College Park, Md. - The women's tennis team (2-0, 0-0 ACC) downed Georgetown 7-0 Sunday in the College Park Tennis Bubble. This is the second consecutive victory for the Terps in a five-match homestand, which began with an 8-1 rout over West Virginia on Saturday. The Terps swept all nine matches for a perfect score at the end of the day, although all three doubles match were Maryland victories, only one team point is earned.
In doubles competition, sophomore Delila Causevic (Silver Spring, Md.) and partner Pamela Floro (Manilla, Philippines) defeated Jordan Botjer and Julie Hom with a perfect 8-0 set. Freshmen Olivia Dubovikov (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Chloe Chavardes (St. Nombreteche, France) defeated Caroline Marshall and Hadley Muckerman 8-1 at the No. 2 spot. At No. 3, freshmen Emily Marker (Ann Arbor, Mich.) and Danielle Piacente (Rockville, Md.) earned their second doubles win this weekend with an 8-1 victory over Lara Madonia and Meredith Bumpass. This put Maryland up 3-0 going into the singles portion of the match.
Causevic earned her second singles victory and ninth overall when she downed Marshall in two sets at the No. 1 singles position. Dubovikov, who posted four singles' wins in the fall, defeated Botjer 6-0, 6-4 at No. 2. Marker and Floro both won 6-0, 6-0 matches at the No. 3 and No. 4 positions respectively, securing the team victory for the Terps. Chavardes defeated Bumpass 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5. In the final match of the day, Piacente earned her first regular season match with a hard-fought two-set win over Hom.
Maryland continues its homestand Friday, Feb. 9 when they meet Indiana at 6:00 p.m. The match has been moved from the Tennis Bubble to off-campus courts at the College Park Tennis Center.
