Adams Earns Honors for First Week of Lacrosse Action

No. 1 Maryland Women's Lacrosse Downs No. 4 Loyola 16-12 On Senior Day

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 1 ranked University of Maryland women's lacrosse team (17-0) celebrated Senior Day with a 16-12 win over No. 4 Loyola (12-4) in the Terps' regular-season finale at Ludwig Field. Seniors Jen Adams (Brighton, South Australia) and Quinn Carney (Flemington, N.J.) led the Terrapins. Adams finished with five goals and five assists, while Carney netted five goals and two assists. Loyola's Stacey Morlang finished the day with four goals and an assist in the losing effort.

Maryland jumped out to a 2-0 start on a pair of goals from the senior duo of Adams and Carney before Morlang started the scoring for the Greyhounds. Terrapin senior Allison Comito (Glen Head, N.Y.) found the net for her only goal of the day to give Maryland the 3-1 lead before Morlang pulled the fourth-ranked Greyhounds within one again at the 9:31 mark on her second goal of the afternoon.

Neither team could pull more than two goals ahead, with Loyola taking their only of the day with two minutes to play in the half. Maryland reeled-off three goals in the final 1:39 of the half to enter the break up 8-7 over Loyola.

In the second half it was all Maryland with the Terps controlling the tempo and outscoring the Greyhounds 8-5. Adams was on fire in the second half, tallying four goals and adding three assists before time expired.

The Terps have two games remaining in the 2001 regular season, and hit the road to New England for both. Maryland meets Dartmouth at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 4 and Harvard at 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 6 before beginning NCAA Tournament action. Loyola finishes the regular season at Brown on May 3 at 3:30 p.m.
