* The Maryland volleyball returns to action tonight against regional ACC rival Virginia. The Terps are looking to snap a three-match losing streak after dropping their first two ACC matches of the year last weekend at North Carolina and NC State.
* Tuesday's home match is just the second of the season for the Terps after playing eight of the season's first nine matches away from the friendly confines of Ritchie Coliseum. In just over five seasons at Ritchie, the Terrapins have racked up an impressive 31-21 record.
* The Terps hit the road again Friday (Sept. 28) when they travel to Tallahassee, Fla. to face Florida State. Friday's match with the Seminoles begins at 7 p.m.
Series Notes With The Cavaliers And Seminoles
* The Terps have faired well against the Cavaliers, winning 26 of the 35 all-time meetings. Last season, each team won on their home court with the Terps winning in four games at Ritchie (15-3, 17-15, 14-16, 15-12).
* Head coach Janice Kruger has also faired well against UVA, owning a 16-8 career mark.
* Maryland is 11-7 all-time vs. Florida State while Kruger has compiled an impressive 15-5 mark. In the last 12 games, the Terps have rolled, winning 11 of the 12 matches.
A Sneak Peak At This Week's Opponents
* Virginia enters tonight's match with a 5-4 mark including a 1-1 record in the ACC. UVA also started its ACC season with trips to North Carolina and NC State. The Cavaliers fell to Carolina in three games (30-18, 30-21, 30-17) but managed to defeat the Wolfpack in four games (26-30, 30-19, 30-18, 30-21).
* Sophomore middle hitter Shannon Boyle leads the Cavaliers with 81 kills and is second on the team with 31 blocks. Fellow sophomore outside hitter Paige Davis ranks second on the team with 78 kills and a team-best 72 digs.
* Florida State begins the week with a 2-6 mark including a conference record of 1-1. The Lady Seminoles opened the ACC season with a win at Clemson (30-23, 30-32, 30-26, 30-23) last Friday. Following the Clemson match, FSU lost in three games at Georgia Tech (30-25, 30-26, 30-24).
Sophomores Stepping It Up
* Sophomore outside hitter Maria DiLivio (Hamilton, Ontario) and sophomore right side Lynnsy Jones (Castro Valley, Calif.) have been two of the most improved Terrapins on the 2001 team. After playing in 30 matches as a freshman, DiLivio racked up 96 kills and recorded a .174 hitting percentage. In 2001, DiLivio leads the team with 110 kills, 14 more than all of last season. The Canadian also has totaled a hitting percentage of .283 over nine matches. DiLivio is also ninth in the ACC in kills per game (3.55).
* Jones is also off to a good start to open the season. The California native ranks third on the team in kills (91) while she is second on the team with 16 aces. Last year, Jones accumulated 127 kills in 28 matches while leading the ACC in service aces (45).
Davey Ready To Return Against Virginia
* Junior setter Lindsay Davey (Aurora, Colo.) should see action tonight vs. Virginia after spraining her ankle over the weekend at North Carolina. The two-year starter has been a mainstay at setter for the Terps, appearing in every match over her career in College Park.
* Davey leads the team with 310 assists, which also places her sixth in the ACC at 10.69 assists per game.
* Freshman setter Aimee Huddleston (Keller, Texas) started her first match as a Terp Saturday at NC State. Huddleston dished out a career-high 26 assists after recording 12 assists Friday at North Carolina. She led the team in assists in both matches.
Three-game Homestand Awaits Terps After FSU
* Maryland returns home for the first of a three-game homestand Tuesday (Oct. 2) against regional foe Navy at 7 p.m. In seven meetings against the Naval Academy, the Terps are a perfect 7-0.
* A pair of ACC matches round out the homestand vs. Duke and Wake Forest. The Blue Devils come to College Park on Friday (Oct. 5) for a 7 p.m. meeting with the Terps. Duke stands alone in first place of the ACC with its perfect 10-0 record including a 2-0 conference mark. Wake (6-3) makes the trip North Saturday (Oct. 6) with the match set to begin at 5 p.m. The Demon Deacons are currently in a tie for fourth place in the ACC with a 1-1 record.
