TERPS HEAD FOR TEXAS TO ROUND OUT SIX-MATCH ROADTRIP
* Maryland (0-3) hits the road again this weekend to face Southwest Texas, Providence and Texas A&M- Corpus Christi in the B&G Properties Invitational on the campus of Southwest Texas.
* The Terps are still in search of their first win of the season after dropping three tightly contested matches at the Blimpie/Holiday Inn Classic at Indiana last weekend. Maryland took Bowling Green, the winner of the tournament, to five games before losing to the Falcons 15-9 in the deciding game. The Terrapins also lost to host Indiana 27-30, 24-30, 19-30 to open the invitational and to Tennessee 23-30, 27-30, 28-30.
* After starting the season 0-3 last season, the Terps rolled off eight-straight victories to open the season including winning the Columbia/LIU Invitational.
* Sophomore Maria DiLivio (Hamilton, Ontario) got her season off to a good start. The powerful outside hitter led the team with 38 kills over the weekend including a career-high 19 vs. Bowling Green.
LONESTAR HOMECOMING FOR THREE FRESHMEN TERPS
* Three freshmen from Texas dot the 2001 Maryland roster and return home this weekend to play at Southwest Texas.
* Aimee Huddleston (Keller, Texas) lives just over four hours away from Southwest Texas. The first-year setter played in two games and recorded an assist in each.
* Roxann Calderon (San Antonio, Texas) resides just 50 miles away in San Antonio. The right side southpaw played in two matches at Indiana and recorded two digs against the Hoosiers.
* Sarah Treadwell (Pearland, Texas) is the third member of the Texas trio who is back home this weekend. Treadwell's hometown is about 200 miles away in the Houston suburbs. She tallied four digs in the Terps' season-opening match at Indiana.
DORITY NAMED TO THE ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM AT INDIANA
* Senior middle hitter Willette Dority (Congers, N.Y.) has wasted little time in making her mark in her final season with the Terps. Dority was named to the all-tournament team at the Blimpie/Holiday Inn Classic last weekend in Bloomington, Ind.
* Dority racked up 32 kills over the three-match event and led the Terps with a .369 hitting percentage. The senior also chipped in with six blocks and 15 digs.
SERIES NOTES AGAINST THE FIELD IN SAN MARCOS
* Maryland and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi will be meeting for the first time Saturday afternoon.
* The Terps have faced Providence the most of any team this weekend with six previous meetings. Maryland owns a 4-2 series advantage over the Friars. It will be the first match between the two schools since 1992 when Maryland won in three games (15-11, 15-10, 15-12) at the Hofstra Invitational.
* The Terrapins have faced Southwest Texas once, losing the only meeting in 1985 (9-15, 10-15, 12-15) at home.
KRUGER JUST SHY OF TWO MILESTONES
* Janice Kruger needs just three victories to reach the 250 mark for her career as leader of the Terps.
* One of the nation's elite coaches, Kruger has amassed an impressive 247-165 record during her 14-year career in College Park. In the ACC, Kruger is among the all-time greats, with her 247 wins placing her third on the all-time list for victories.
* Kruger ranks 10th among NCAA coaches with career victories. She needs just one to reach the 600 mark.
* Heading into this weekend's tournament, Kruger has coached against Providence two times during her career at Maryland. She is 1-1 all-time against the Friars. The one loss was a memorable one as it was the first game she ever coached in at Maryland in 1988 at the Hofstra Invitational.
A LOOK AT THIS WEEKEND'S OPPONENTS
* The host Southwest Texas Bobcats opened the season with a 1-2 mark at Notre Dame in the Shamrock Invitational. After losing their season-opening match to No. 20 Notre Dame, SWT came back to split their final two matches of the tournament.
* The Bobcats lost to Idaho in three games, but defeated Florida Atlantic in five games in their final match of the weekend. Last season, the Bobcats rolled to an impressive 29-4 mark including a perfect 20-0 record in the Southland Conference.
* Maryland's second opponent of the invitational, Providence, hails from the BIG EAST conference. The Friars have opened the young season 1-3 after playing last weekend at the Charlotte Invitational. Providence defeated Virginia Commonwealth in five games for its only win of the tournament. The Friars lost matches to Kansas, Charlotte, and Middle Tennessee State to round out play in Charlotte.
* In just its second season of volleyball, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi opened the season with a 2-2 mark at the Sam Houston State Invitational. In three of the four matches, the Islanders went the full five games and pulled out wins over North Texas and Sam Houston State. The Islanders lost to Big 12 foe Oklahoma and Louisiana-Lafayette in their other two contests.
