COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) - Ryan Randle had 18 points and Drew Nicholas added
15 as No. 12 Maryland closed an impressive preseason by defeating EA Sports
95-60 Tuesday night.
Tahj Holden had 10 points and 11 rebounds for the defending NCAA champions,
who won their two exhibition games by a combined 53 points.
In this one, even though Maryland coach Gary Williams gave his reserves
plenty of playing time, the Terrapins dominated after falling behind briefly in
the first half.
Maryland led 53-46 before Nicholas made two free throws to start a 9-2 run
that made it 62-48 with nine minutes remaining.
The Terrapins then pulled away, wearing down a team playing its 15th game in
19 days.
Mike Elliott scored 19 points for EA Sports, a collection of former college
players who went 7-8 on their tour of the southeastern United States. This was
the their most lopsided defeat, surpassing a 28-point loss at Duke.
Randle scored 10 points, Nicholas had nine and Maryland held a 26-15
rebounding edge in building a 39-33 halftime lead.
The Terrapins led from the start in their other exhibition, a 97-79 rout of
the Harlem Globetrotters.
