Coming off a tough 4-3 loss to No. 39 Pennsylvania, the University of Maryland women's tennis team defeated the Princeton Tigers, 6-1 at the Tennis Center at College Park. The Terps took an early lead by sweeping doubles and continued with their dominance in singles action. With the win, Maryland evened their record at 5-5.
Emily Marker and Marianne Baker, continued their winning tradition at the No. 1 doubles spot as they defeated Princeton's Roth and Robertson, 8-3.
Jennifer Dent and Chloe Chavardes (St. Nomblabreteche, France) did not let the fact that they have not teamed up in a dual match since Jan. 31 stop them from winning. They clinched the doubles point when they defeated Trimble and Berg, 8-3 in the No. 3 doubles spot.
Ramona But and Neda Mihneva continued with the Terp rout, as they were victorious in the No. 2 doubles spot over Siebel and Kobushyn, 8-6.
Senior Emily Marker (Ann Arbor, Mich.) continued to fill the No. 1 singles spot for the Terps. She defeated Darcy Robertson, 6-4, 6-0. Playing in the No. 2 singles spot, Ramona But (Timisoara, Romania) downed Jessica Siebel, 6-2, 6-3.
Freshman Marianne Baker (Glenelg, Md.) continued her winning ways as she made quick work of Stephanie Berg, 6-1, 6-2. Jennifer Dent (Safety Harbor, Fla.) shut out her opponent Laura Trimble in the first set and continued her excellence in the second, as she breezed her way to a 6-0, 6-2 win.
Freshman transfer Neda Mihneva (Sofia, Bulgaria) took the first set however ended up on the losing end of a hard fought three set match. She was defeated by Jackie Arcario 3-6, 6-2, losing the super tiebreaker, 14-12.
In the No. 6 spot for the terps today, sophomore Andreea Fusea (Bucharest, Romania) battled her way to a third set victory defeating Joanna Roth 4-6, 6-2, (10-6).
The Terps have only a few days to gear up for conference action. Maryland swings into ACC play, Sat. Feb. 13 when Florida State comes to town at Noon.
