Terp Ramona But Receives Automatic Invite to NCAA Singles Competition

INDIANAPOLIS- - Sophomore Ramona But was selected on Thursday evening to compete in the 2004 NCAA Singles Championships in Athens, Ga. The national championship will be held from May 24-29.

But, a native of Timisoara, Romania, currently ranks 26th in the country and has posted a 15-4 record during the spring and a 19-6 mark overall on the season. Against ACC opponents, she went 7-2.

The two-time All-ACC selection played all 21 matches in the spring at the numbers one and two singles position. At the top of the Terps' lineup, But recorded four wins over nationally ranked opponents and vaulted from No. 58 to finish out the regular season just outside the top 25.

But is the first Maryland player to be selected to the singles championships since Delila Causevic in 2002, and is among six ACC players selected to participate in the tournament in singles action.

The championship will be held following the conclusion of the team championships which begin on May 8.
