ANN ARBOR, Mich. -
University of Maryland junior Kate Stepanek fired a final-round 75 to earn the individual championship Sunday at the Wolverine Invitational women's golf tournament hosted by the University of Michigan.
Stepanek's 3-over-par 75 gave her a 54-hole total of 219, also 3-over for the tournament. She started Sunday's play one shot behind Amy Schmucker of Michigan, who shot a 79 to finish three strokes behind Stepanek.
Maryland finished third as a team in the event, firing a 306 on Sunday for a 920 total. Michigan won the team title at 905, with SMU in second at 908.
Also for Maryland, Kelly MacWhinnie earned a top-10 finish after a final-round 73 gave her a 232 total over three rounds. Katie Trotter was 12th at 234 after a 79 on Sunday, while Jessica Reno also had a 79 in the final round to tie for 19th overall at 238.
Kelly Calkin tied for 27th at 245, while Madeleine Lovette tied for 35th at 253 in her first action for the Terrapins.
Maryland will play next on Oct. 15 and 16 at the Nittany Lion Fall Invitational.
