KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. -
Kelly MacWhinnie and Kate Stepanek each carded 5-over-par rounds of 77 to tie for 24th individually and lead Maryland to fifth in the team standings Monday in the first round of the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate women's golf tournament.
The 54-hole event is being played at the Oak Point Golf Course on Kiawah Island, S.C.
The Terrapins shot 310 as a team, tying Nebraska for fifth place after one round. Campbell was in first place at 301, holding a two-shot edge over Coastal Carolina.
Also for Maryland on Monday, Jessica Reno and Katie Trotter were tied for 33rd after shooting 78. Trotter had a 36 on the back nine in her round. Kelly Calkin was tied for 80th after an 84.
The 54-hole event played through the first 27 rounds on Monday, with scores of the first round only being reported. The final 27 holes of the tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m. on Tuesday.
