Maryland Volleyball Preps For Home Contests Against Virginia Rivals

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Listed #25 on the CSTV/AVCA ranking this week, the Terps will play heated contests against Virginia and Virginia Tech at the Comcast Center this weekend. The Terrapins (13-1 ACC, 22-1) will face Virginia (10-4 ACC, 15-8) Friday at 7 p.m. and Virginia Tech (6-8 ACC, 11-12) on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

Maryland's record at 22-1 is the second-best start in coach Janice Kruger's 18-year career with the Terps. The Terrapins have won 28 out of their last 30 matches, including all ten of their home matches at the Comcast Center.

The Terps won both matches in the sunshine state this past weekend against the University of Miami in five games (30-27, 34-36, 26-30, 30-22, 15-9) and Florida State in four, (30-27, 30-25, 14-30, 30-22).

Leading the ACC in hitting percentage (.280 for the season), blocks (3.35 bpg.), and opponents hitting percentage (.157), the Terps rank second in kills per game (16.01 kpg), second in service aces (1.75), and are tied for third in assists (14.47). Maryland is also averaging 15.00 digs per game.

The Terps match against Virginia on October 1 in Charlottesville was one of five matches for the team that went five games, with Maryland prevailing 30-16, 24-30, 30-26, 26-30, and 15-12. Overall, Maryland leads the series against Virginia 30-13.

Maryland holds a 4-1 lead overall against Virginia Tech, winning the match earlier this year 3-0 in Blacksburg, Virginia in Cassell Coliseum.

On Tuesday night, the Virginia Cavaliers won a close match against Virginia Tech (30-22, 28-30, 32-30, 30-26) in Blacksburg.

Game time is 7:00 p.m. Friday night for the Terps matchup against the Cavaliers in the Comcast Center. Admission and parking is free.
