Holy Cross Postgame Quotes vs. Ohio State
Bill Gibbons, Holy Cross Head Coach
On his team:
It was an emotional locker room, which says a lot about this team. I told them before the Patriot League Championship game at the Hart Center that I was very proud of them and they had become a true team. The highest compliment you can give a coach is that there a true team. This group was a true team and I told them that before the game today that I was proud of them win or lose. And afterward it was very emotional talking about this group and the seniors especially because this was a critical year for Holy Cross women's basketball after last year. And thanks to great senior leadership and this team coming together, we're back in the NCAA's and back on the upswing again.
On playing against Davenport:
It is tough to simulate playing against her in practice. Lisa has been our bread and butter, so we went to her. She really plays like she is 6-8 or 6-9 with those long arms. But to hang with a team like this we need to have a good shooting game and unfortunately we picked a bad night to have one of our worst shooting nights of the year.
On playing defense against Ohio State:
I thought early we could play some defense with our offense and limit the number of times we had to stop them, but then he's a good coach and got the game going up and down and we had to play that way or else we weren't going to score. And now we had to stop them more times. Instead of trying to stop them 16 or 18 times in the first half we had to try and stop them 35 times. You have to tip your hat to them.
Senior Center Lisa Andrews
On playing against Jessica Davenport:
We were a very prepared team. We watched film and went over the defense we were going to play against her. She's a very big girl. She had some good moves and is an athletic post for her size, which is always very impressive. We shut her down some times, but she ended up with 23 points.
On defensive ability of Davenport:
To be honest, on the shots that I missed I think it was really me who stopped myself because I think mentally I altered my shot because of her presence.
Sophomore Guard Brittany Keil
On the future of Holy Cross basketball:
I know I speak on behalf of the other underclassmen that we wouldn't be where we are without their leadership. Maggie (Fontana), Lisa (Andrews) and Caitlin Agostinacchio led us through this tough season. After having a losing season last year we knew we had to step it up and get this program back where it needs to be. We couldn't do it without them. They led us through the season and we depended on them in big games. It is going to be very hard to fill their shoes after they leave and I'm sure everybody else on the team feels the same way.
