Crystal Langhorne had 21 points and seven rebounds in 17 minutes to lead the Under-19 USA Women's Basketball team to a 129-74 win over South Korea in the final game of pool play at the U19 World Championship in Tunis, Tunisia. Marissa Coleman also added 17 points and seven boards to help the USA to a perfect 5-0 record in pool play and the top seed in the medal round.
Langhorne (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro), who was the 2005 ACC Rookie of the Year, was perfect from the field and from the free throw line, going 9-for-9 and 3-for-3, respectively. Coleman was nearly perfect, going 7-for-9 from the floor and 3-for-4 from the charity stripe, to go with five assists.
Langhorne continues to have a superb summer playing with the USA team. At the World Championship, she is second on the team averaging 16.4 points per game and is the team's rebounding leader with 7.8 boards per game. A starter in all five games of pool play, she is also shooting an amazing .739 from the floor and is .778 from the free throw line.
A two-time high school All-American, Coleman (Cheltenham, Md./St. John's College [D.C.]) is averaging 9.4 ppg and 5.2 rpg.
The U.S. earned the top seed after posting wins over Russia (98-65), Congo (124-37), Serbia & Montenegro (94-68), Puerto Rico (116-28) and South Korea (129-74). In the opening game of the championship, Langhorne, who has reached double-figures in every game, had 16 points and seven rebounds in just 16 minutes. After recording back-to-back games with 14 points, she tallied 17 points and 12 rebounds vs. P.R. in just 15 minutes.
Coleman has also been instrumental in the USA's victories. She had 10 points against the Russians, then hauled down nine boards vs. Congo to go with eight points. She went 5-for-8 from the floor against Puerto Rico, including a three-pointer, for 11 points.
The U.S. begins the medal round facing Hungary on Friday, July 27. The Americans split a two-game exhibition series prior to the championship. The semifinals are Saturday, July 28 with the medal games taking place Sunday, July 29.
