Maryland Women's Basketball Goes Under The Shell Again in 2006

  • Under The Shell Webpage

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland announced today the second season of its cutting-edge, national television program Under the Shell, and the addition of on-demand Internet video on the new Under the Shell webpage. The new web site can be accessed through Maryland's official athletics website, www.umterps.com. The TV and Internet offerings combine to provide fans a unique, all-access look at the sixth-ranked Terrapin women's basketball team in its pursuit of an ACC and NCAA title in 2006.

Under the Shell is a reality-based, 13-episode television series that will be available to viewers nationally on College Sports Television (CSTV), regionally on Comcast SportsNet (CSN) and world-wide on www.umterps.com. Episode 1 debuts in the Baltimore-Washington region on CSN today, January 4, at 11:00pm and nationally on CSTV this Friday, January 6 at 5:00pm. Each episode of the TV series will be archived online on the Under the Shell webpage for on-demand viewing.

"We received a tremendous response to the show last year and are excited for season two," said Maryland head coach Brenda Frese. "Fans will enjoy watching the growth of our players, on and off the court, as we progress through the season."

The new Under the Shell webpage on www.umterps.com provides fans with game highlights, coach and player interviews, photo galleries and additional special programming not seen on the television series. Current special programming includes behind-the-scenes looks at the Terps' games at the Paradise Jam in the U.S. Virgin Islands over the Thanksgiving holiday and a look back at Crystal Langhorne's summer when she led the 2005 USA Under-19 World Championship Team to the gold medal at the 2005 FIBA U19 World Championship, while garnering tournament Most Valuable Player honors in the process.

Under the Shell is produced by former Terrapin and NFL place-kicker Jess Atkinson, who also is the producer of FridgeTV, the behind-the-scenes television and Internet series about Maryland Football.

"We are building on the success of last season," said Atkinson. "Just as Coach Frese has done with her team. The addition of Internet video is exciting because it puts fans in control -- you can go online and watch what you want, when you want."
