The Hokies are led by sophomore forward Laurie Beth Puglisi who leads the team with seven goals and four assists for 18 points. She is tied for second in the ACC with four goals in conference matches this season. Freshman forward Emily Jukich is second on the club with 14 points on seven goals.
Head Coach Kelly Cagle is in her fourth season at the helm of the VT program and has compiled a 31-35-5 (.472) overall record.
Scouting the Cavaliers

A Quick Look At The Terps
Maryland finished last week with a 0-1-1 record, losing a tough 1-0 decision at NC State on Wednesday before battling Duke to a 0-0 tie on Saturday.
Nikki Resnick was brilliant again for the Terps vs. the Wolfpack, but NC State was able to get a goal in the 78th minute on a corner kick and that proved to be the difference in the game.
As good as Resnick was against the Wolfpack, she was even better against the Blue Devils. The senior co-captain tied her own Ludwig Field record with 14 saves in the 0-0 tie.
All-Time vs. The ACC
The Terps have an all-time record of 33-75-12 (.325) in regular season ACC play.
Resnick Tops In ACC
Senior goalkeeper Nikki Resnick is leading the ACC in several goalkeeping categories.
The 2005 first team All-ACC selection is tops in the conference with a .888 save percentage. Resnick has allowed just 13 goals this season, while making 103 saves.
Resnick is also atop the rankings for total saves and saves per game. She has made 103 saves on the season for a per game average of 6.87.
In seven ACC matches so far this season Resnick has made 54 saves for an average of 7.71 per game.
The Virginia Tech Series
The Maryland-Virginia Tech series is in its infancy with the two teams meeting just three times previously, all in the regular season.
Last season saw the two team battle to a 0-0 tie in College Park. Maryland dominated the game, outshooting the Hokies 19-7, but the Terps could not finish a goal to pick up the win.
In 2004, the Hokies won their first-ever ACC game vs. Maryland, 2-0 at Ludwig Field.
The first meeting between the two programs came in 1995, a 6-0 romp for the 15th-ranked Terrapins. That game marked the first-ever soccer game at Ludwig Field.
The Virginia Series
Virginia leads the all-time series with the Terps 18-2-3 and Maryland is looking for its first-ever win in Charlottesville.
The Terps have only defeated the Wahoos twice, with the last coming in 2002 at Ludwig Field. Kim King scored the first goal for the Terps in the 43rd minute off a pass by then freshman Simone Dekker. Audra Poulin scored the insurance goal in the 72nd minute.
Maryland's only other victory over Virginia came in a 3-2 double overtime thriller in 1998.
The Terps and Cavs have made a habit of playing close games over the last 10 years. In that span, taking out a 5-0 UVa. win in 1999, the Wahoos hold an 11-9 scoring advantage over Maryland. In their last four meetings, the two teams have each scored a total of two goals.
Six of the last seven games between the two programs has ended in a shutout, including a memorable 0-0 double overtime thriller in 2004 at Ludwig Field. Then-sophomore goalkeeper Nikki Resnick stopped seven Cavalier shots in that match.
At Ludwig Field
Since its opening in 1995, Ludwig Field has proved to be a tremendous home-field advantage for the Terps women's soccer team. All-time Maryland is 79-35-12 (.674) at Ludwig Field.
Through the seasons, the Terps have had a knack for shutting teams out at Ludwig Field. Maryland has won 53 of its 79 games (67%) at Ludwig Field via shutout. Add in the eight 0-0 ties the Terps have had at Ludwig Field and it totals 61 times that Maryland has shutout its opponent in 126 games (48.4%).
All-time in ACC games at Ludwig Field the Terrapins are 20-18-8 (.522).
Playing The Best
Once again in 2006, Maryland will play one of toughest schedules in the nation.
The Terps take on seven teams ranked in this week's NSCAA poll including three of the top five teams. The Terps faced No. 3 UCLA (L, 0-3/Aug. 27) at the Penn State Classic. They host No. 5 Florida State (L, 0-1, Oct. 5) and No. 16 Virginia (Oct. 22). Maryland traveled to No. 2 North Carolina (L, 0-3/Oct. 1), No. 13 Dartmouth (L, 0-1/Sept. 8), No. 18 Wake Forest (L, 1-2/Sept. 28) and No. 24 Boston College (Oct. 27). The Terps beat Tennessee (W, 1-0/Aug. 25) and tied Duke (T, 0-0/Oct. 14) which are currently receiving votes.
Beating The Best
During seven of the past eight seasons, Maryland has at least one upset win or tie of a top-10 ranked team: 4-3 win at No. 9 Duke on Sept. 19, 1999 and a 2-1 victory over Clemson on Oct. 17, 1999; a 3-1 win over No. 4 Penn State on Aug. 29, 2000; a 1-0 overtime over No. 8 Clemson on Oct. 13, 2001 and a 1-1 tie at No. 2 North Carolina on Nov. 1, 2002. The Terps stunned No. 3 UCLA 2-1 at the Virginia Soccer Classic on Sept. 12, 2004. A month and a half later, Maryland beat No. 10 Duke 1-0 in overtime at Ludwig Field. The Terps topped all of those victories with a 1-0 shutout of No. 2 seed Penn State in the 2004 NCAA Tournament. The win also snapped the Nittany Lions 39-game home winning streak and was head coach Paula Wilkins' first-ever loss at Jeffrey Field. The Terps extended that streak in 2005 with a 2-1 upset of No. 8 Boston College on Oct. 29 at Ludwig Field. Jeffrey Field proved lucky for the Terps again in the 2006 season opener as they knocked off No. 10 Tennessee 1-0 at the Penn State Classic on Aug. 25.
