Coleman Named ACC Women's Basketball Player of the Week

Dec. 4, 2006

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland's Marissa Coleman was voted the ACC's Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. The former ACC Rookie of the Year earns the award after recording the program's first-ever triple-double on Saturday night against UC Santa Barbara.

A sophomore, Marissa Coleman (Cheltenham, Md./St. John's College [D.C.]) earns the honor for the first time in her career and is the first Terrapin this season to garner the award.

The program's first-ever triple-double came on a long pass for a layup to teammate Crystal Langhorne (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro) with six minutes and 26 seconds remaining in the game for Coleman's career-high 10th assist of the evening, as the Terps cruised to a 105-44 win over UCSB. She is also the 11th player in ACC history to record the achievement.

Coleman also added 15 points and nearly outrebounded the Gauchos on her own, grabbing 14 boards. UCSB had only 17 rebounds on the night. She also went 6-for-8 from the floor with just three turnovers.

Coleman started the week with 13 points and nine rebounds, just short of a double-double, at Marshall, as Maryland won that contest, 68-49.

In the two games, she averaged a double-double with 14.0 points and 11.5 rebounds per game. She also shot 60 percent from the floor, including 50 percent from three-point range.

The Terps are back on the court tonight, Monday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. against Siena, then hit the road to Northern Iowa on Dec. 6 for the first of three road trips.
