May 25, 2006

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland volleyball team has announced the Terrapin schedule for 2006. Coach Janice Kruger's team, coming off a successful 2005 season that saw the Terps advance to the second round of NCAA Tournament, has a challenging schedule ahead.

A total of five opponents participated in the 2005 NCAA Tournament, three of which - Duke, UCLA and Long Island - advanced to the second round. The Terps will host ACC rivals Virginia, Georgia Tech, Clemson, Miami, Florida State and Duke with their home opener slated for Friday, September 29th against conference foe, Virginia Tech.

"This is a competitive schedule," said Kruger. "Each year presents different challenges and opportunities. We're excited about our four new freshmen coming in, and we will all work hard to stay at the top of the league in 2006."

Maryland opens the season with two early season tournaments at Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind. and the Stony Brook University Invitational in Long Island, N.Y. The Terps round out the tournament schedule as host of the Maryland Invitational (Sept. 15-16) with matches scheduled against Long Island University, Florida International and UCLA in the Comcast Center.

The Terps kick off conference play on the road in Florida (Sept. 22-24) with ACC matchups against Florida State and Miami. Maryland's longest stretch on the road is two-week road swing in North Carolina against Duke, Wake Forest, North Carolina, followed by NC State on October 21. After Thanksgiving, the Terps will conclude the season at home with contests against NC State and North Carolina at the Comcast Center.
