Terps Earn CSCAA Academic National Honors

College Park, Md. - The College Swim Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) announced its 2006 national academic honorees, a list that included recognition for the men's team as well as six individual members of the women's swimming and diving team.

Krisztina Kovacs garnered recognition as a national academic honoree, while her teammates Maya Finkler, Kirsten Jones, Kaleena Laputka, Inbal Levavi, and Barbara Sumrall received national academic honorable mention.

The men's swimming and diving team was also recognized as a group for its outstanding academic achievements,

"The commitment of both our men's and women's program to the classroom and the pool are reflective in being honored as part of this program," said Head Coach Dave Durden. "For six of our women to be recognized individually is an enormous accomplishment."

Laura Meckley, an assistant director for the Academic Support and Career Development Unit at the University of Maryland, also discussed the significance of the teams' honors. "Their commitment and dedication help them give true meaning to the phrase 'student-athlete, and this recognition is a true testament to that."
