Season Opener Set For Friday

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland women's swimming and diving team is set to open the 2007-08 season this Friday, October 26. The meet will begin at 3:00 against Johns Hopkins at Maryland's Eppley Recreation Center.

The women's team enters this season coming off of a mark of 3-3 in the ACC and look to build off of last season's 6-5 overall. The Terps are led by interim head coach Jarod Schroeder and assistant coaches Demerae Christianson and Kevin Clements.

The Johns Hopkins women's team lost their season opener against Navy last Saturday, October 19, 166-120.

Last year against Johns Hopkins:

-Maryland dominated in the 50-yard freestyle claiming the top-three places.

-The Terps had an impressive showing in the 200 free with junior Yelena Skalinskaya in first (1:53.70) and sophomore Jackie Davidson in second (1:54.74).

-Skalinskaya had her second win of the day in the 100 free (51.07).

-Maryland had the top-three times in the 100 backstroke.

-Senior captain Emily Smoak swam a 1:07.47 in the 100 breaststroke.

-Sophomore Patty DeScenza had a third place finish (58.57) in the 100 butterfly.
