COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland women's swimming and diving team won their season opener against Johns Hopkins, 264-137. The meet took place on Friday, October 26 at the Eppley Recreation Center.

The women began play by taking the top two spots in the 200-yard medley relay. Annie Fittin, Stephanie Parker, Blair Cross, and Maya Finkler took first place with a combined time of 1:48.34, while Patty DeScenza, Emily Smoak, Jen Vogel, and Kathryn Snedeker took second with a time of 1:49.68.

In the third event of the day, Erin Holmes swam to a first place finish during the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:30.51.

The Terps had an impressive finish in the 200-yard freestyle, taking the top three spots. Maya Finkler swam a time of 1:53.88. Following in a close second was Laura Jojic, swimming a 1:56.77. Nina Rossi took third with a time of 1:57.57.

The Terrapins also finished with the top three seeds in the 50-yard freestyle. Fittin, Cross, and Snedeker finished with times of 23.84, 24.14 and 25.13, respectively.

Captain Emily Smoak led her competition in the 100-yard breaststroke. Smoak finished first with a time of 1:07.96.

Maryland took the top seed in 13 events, including the 100-yard backstroke and the 200-yard butterfly.

The Terps will host their next meet on November 3 against Duke.
