Reese Era Begins With 23-8 Win At UMBC

BALTIMORE, Md. - The Maryland women's lacrosse team opened the 2007 season with an emphatic 23-8 win against UMBC on February 19 at UMBC Stadium. Junior Katie Princiotto led the way for Maryland with three goals while tying the school record with six assists. Junior Dana Dobbie added six goals and 10 draw controls.

Princiotto joins five other Terps who have recorded six assists in a game. The last woman to do it was associate head coach Jen Adams who tied the mark in 2001.

Dobbie's 10 draw controls tied the entire UMBC team. The Terrapins finished the game with 22 in all. The Terps also held substantial advantages in shots (48-24) and ground balls (19-9).

Freshman Amanda Spinnenweber made her debut in grand fashion with four goals and two assists. Senior Krista Pellizzi had two goals and two assists while freshman Ali Perkins had a goal and three assists. Junior goalie Allie Buote performed when tested as she racked up 10 saves.

The Terrapins opened the game by scoring the first seven goals of the day. Dobbie scored the first goal of the season in her first game in a Maryland uniform when she found the back of the cage 2:21 in. Maryland scored two more goals from senior Krista Pellizzi and freshman Caitlyn McFadden in the same minute. The initial scoring run also saw first career goals from McFadden and Spinnenweber. Princiotto recorded a goal and an assist during the span.

Ali Levendusky finally got on the board for the Retrievers at the 16:40 mark of the first half. Senior Katie Doolittle and McFadden notched a pair of free-position goals to make it 9-1 before Kara Dorr scored another goal for UMBC. The Terps would close out the half by scoring six of the next seven goals to take a 15-3 lead into the half.

Junior Casey Magor opened the scoring in the second half 44 seconds in with her first tally of the season. The Terps didn't look back as it scored five of the first six goals in the second half to build an insurmountable 20-4 lead.

Kara Dorr led the way for UMBC (1-1) with a hat trick while adding an assist. Amanda Gable chipped in with a pair of goals.

Maryland (1-0) opens its home portion of the schedule on Saturday, February 24 when it hosts Boston College in the ACC opener for both schools. The game will be held at the Lacrosse & Field Hockey Complex at 12 noon.
