Four Terps Placed On All-ACC Academic Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Four Maryland Terrapins were named to the 2007 All-ACC Academic Women's Lacrosse team, announced today by the conference office. Junior Dana Dobbie, the 2007 ACC Player of the Year, headlines the team along with classmates Allie Buote and Katie Princiotto and freshman Caitlyn McFadden.

To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.

Dobbie, a family studies major, was a Tewaaraton finalist and a first-team All-American in 2007. She was a force in every facet of the game in her first season in College Park after transferring from Ohio University. She led the team with 79 draw controls and 39 ground balls, was second with 53 goals and 69 points, and third with 24 caused turnovers. She also scored a team-high five game-winning goals. Her 3.95 draw controls per game ranked fourth in the nation.

Dobbie was also tabbed the 2007 ACC Player of the Year and a Honda Sports Award nominee this year.

Buote, who majors in criminal justice, racked up 167 saves in the cage for a .469 save percentage. Her 189 goals allowed gave her a 10.00 goals against average. Her saves and save percentage numbers were the best of her career so far. She finished the season third in the ACC in every goalie statistic.

Princiotto is a communication major making her second appearance on the team. She led the Terps with 26 assists after she had not recorded one in her previous two seasons. She also added 19 goals and her 45 points were sixth on the team. Her 1.30 assists per game ranked third in the conference.

McFadden, who is enrolled in the college of letters and sciences, made an immediate impact as one of the premier freshman in the country. As a midfielder, she led all freshmen on the team with 18 goals, 17 assists, 35 points, 29 draw controls, 27 ground balls, and 21 caused turnovers. Her draw controls were third on the team and her ground balls were fifth.
