INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -
The University of Maryland will have eight swimmers competing in next week's US Nationals in Indianapolis, Indiana. Six will swim for the Terps, one will represent her home club team and one as an incoming freshman. The different events will be held from July 31 - August 4.
Junior Dong Kim will lead for the men's side, swimming the 50 and 100 freestyle. Kim will also compete in the 100 backstroke, the 400 medley, and the 400 free relays.
Four other Terps will be competing for the men, including seniors Eric Thomasson and Jake DiPiazza, and juniors Eric Cullen and Andy Dilz.
Thomasson and DiPiazza will both swim the 400 free relays, with Thomasson also swimming the 400 medley relay. Cullen will compete in the 100 breaststroke and 400 medley relay, and Dilz in the 200 breaststroke, the 400 medley relay, and the 400 free relay.
On the women's side, sophomore Jen Vogel will be the lone Terrapin, swimming both the 100 and 200 butterfly.
Sophomore Annie Broome will be racing the 200 Butterfly, representing her home club team Pilot Knoxville Aquatic Club. Incoming freshman Nick Cordes will compete in the 50 meter freestyle.
At last year's Spring Nationals, Cullen finished 13th in the 100-meter breaststroke while Dong finished 17th in the 100-meter backstroke. During Nationals held last summer in Irvine, CA, Maryland sent three athletes to the meet, Elizabeth Lavell, Danny Gray, and Tony Miller, with Lavell recording the highest finish of 24th in the 200 IM.
