Langhorne Earns ACC Player of the Week for a School-Record Fifth Time

Jan. 7, 2008

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - For the second-consecutive week and the sixth time in 10 weeks of the 2007-08 campaign, a Terrapin has been voted the Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced today. Senior Crystal Langhorne earns the weekly honor for the second time this season and the fifth time in her career, the most for any player in the history of the program.

Crystal Langhorne (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro) led Maryland to a pair of conference victories last week to open the ACC slate. She posted her third-straight double-double and fifth of the season in the 83-49 blowout victory at Wake Forest. She netted a team-high tying 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

Langhorne followed up with a season-high 25 points and eight rebounds in the dominating 110-46 victory over Clemson at home on Sunday, where the standout went 10-for-12 (83.3 percent) from the floor, while also recording a career-high tying four steals. Langhorne shot nearly 70 percent over the two games, averaging 20.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game.

Langhorne broke Jessie Hicks' record for most ACC Player of the Week selections. Hicks garnered the honor four times in her career from 1991-93. Langhorne is the second Terrapin to repeat as ACC Player of the Week this season. Junior Marissa Coleman (Cheltenham, Md./St. John's College [D.C.]) was voted the conference's player of the week last Monday for the second time.

Senior Laura Harper (Elkins Park, Pa./Cheltenham) and junior Kristi Toliver (Harrisonburg, Va./Harrisonburg) have also been named ACC Player of the Week this season.

The Terps move up to fourth in the Associated Press poll this week and are 18-1 after posting the two ACC wins. Maryland returns to action on Thursday, Jan. 10 when it travels to Boston College for another ACC clash. The team returns home to face 12th-ranked Duke on Monday, Jan. 14.
