CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The No. 2 Maryland women's lacrosse team jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first half and held on for a 6-4 win against No. 11 North Carolina in the semifinals of the 2008 ACC Championship at Scott Stadium. The Terrapins will face No. 3 Virginia in the championship game on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

The ACC Championship game will be televised live on RSN.

Senior Dana Dobbie led the Terps with a pair of goals with classmate Kelly Kasper assisting on both of them. Sophomore Caitlyn McFadden had a goal and an assist while seniors Lauren Cohen, Casey Magor, and sophomore Amanda Spinnenweber scored the other three goals.

Maryland came out and dominated the first 30 minutes and took a 6-1 lead into the half. The Terps won the first six draws of the game which translated into six unanswered goals over the first 9:48. Magor got the ball rolling when she scored the first goal off a feed from McFadden.

Spinnenweber, Kasper, and McFadden added the next three goals for the Terps to make it 4-0 after 10 minutes. Dobbie scored Maryland's next two goals with both assists going to Kasper.

North Carolina finally got on the board with 8:56 to go in the half when Megan Bosica forced a turnover, picked up the ground ball, and got the goal.

The second half was a different story as North Carolina held possession on the offensive end for the bulk of the time. The Tar Heels earned a 4-0 advantage on the draws in the half and fired off twice as many shots as the Terps.

Kristen Carr started the run when she made a move down the middle of the Terps' defense for a score less than three minutes in and then Erica LaGrow did the same at the 24:35 mark to cut the deficit in half, 6-3.

Corey Donohoe scored North Carolina's fourth-straight goal a minute later when Bosica found her for a score with 23:22 left.

The Terps' defense held the rest of the way to hold on for the win. Maryland (15-1) will play in their first ACC title game since 2003 which is the last time it won the conference crown. That tournament was also held in Charlottesville.
