Final Stats

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Maryland women's tennis team lost Saturday afternoon at Purdue, 6-1, to open the spring season.

Junior captain Lisa Miller led the Terps (0-1) with a victory from the No. 5 singles position. Miller dispatched of opponent Remi Martin in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.

Purdue (2-2) claimed the first point of the day, winning all three doubles matches. While the Terrapins stayed with the Boilermakers in two of the three matches, they were unable to pull out a win. Juniors Maggie MacKeever and Eleanor Peters narrowly lost their No. 2 doubles match to Remi Martin and Jennifer Rabot, 9-7. In another tight match, Tatiana Ganzha and Anna Dushkina edged out sophomore Julia Huschke and freshman Jordan Hansbrough, 8-7(2). Senior co-captain Michal Amir and Miller were defeated, 8-1, at the No. 1 position.

Purdue captured five victories in singles play. MacKeever fell to Jennifer Rabot, 6-2, 6-1, while Karin Lundmark was defeated, 6-0, 6-2, by Ganzha, pushing the Boilermaker lead to 3-0.

In her first career dual match, Hansbrough fell to Dushkina, 6-0, 6-0, clinching the victory for the Boilermakers. Hansbrough compiled a 6-3 record during the fall season to earn her the start at the No. 6 spot.

Purdue closed out the meet winning matches in the top two positions. At the No. 1 spot, Peters lost to Purdue's Stephanie Wooton, 7-6 (3), 6-3. In the final match of the day, Amir opened with a first set victory, 6-4. Amir then fell in the second set to Michelle Sammons, 6-2, before dropping the tiebreaker 1-0 (7).

The match was the first meeting in school history between Maryland and Purdue.

Maryland returns to action Sunday, as it faces No. 30 Indiana at the Indiana University Tennis Center, beginning at 11 a.m.
