Match Notes

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland volleyball team travels to Wake Forest and Duke this weekend for a pair of Atlantic Coast Conference matches as the Terrapins look to build off last Sunday's momentous victory against Virginia Tech.

The Terrapins play at 7 p.m. Friday at Wake Forest and then travel to Duke for a 7 p.m. matchup Saturday.

Maryland snapped a five-match losing streak last Sunday against Virginia Tech, rallying from several late deficits to earn the victory. Now at 11-13 overall and 3-8 in the ACC, the Terps will try to ride the momentum of that win against a pair of tough weekend opponents.

The Terps have been tough in five-set matches this season. The victory against the Hokies last weekend gave Maryland four five-set wins in six attempts this season, including two in ACC play.

Led by freshman Sam Rosario's conference-best 41 service aces, Maryland ranks second in the conference in aces with 127. Rosario also ranks sixth in the ACC in digs at 4.02 per set. Sophomore Maddi Lee is the leading attacker on the Terps with 251 kills. Katie Usher is hitting a team-best .338 to rank sixth in the league. Lisa Scott ranks sixth in the ACC in blocks, averaging 1.08 per set.

Wake Forest is 7-15 and 5-6 in the ACC entering the weekend. After dropping their first 10 matches of the season, the Demon Deacons have won seven of 12, including a four-set victory against the Terps earlier this season at Comcast Pavilion.

The Terps lead the all-time series against the Deacs, 21-15, but Wake Forest has won six of the last seven meetings. Maryland has not won at Wake since the 2004 season.

Duke is 19-4 and 9-2 in the conference, only one match behind first-place Florida State. The Blue Devils boast the best defense in the ACC, holding opponents to a .152 hitting percentage. Duke leads the league with 128 service aces, one more than Maryland.

The Blue Devils own a 36-24 lead in the all-time series with Maryland. Duke swept Maryland in College Park earlier this season and has won seven straight matchups in the series.
