COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland women's soccer team has been selected as the No. 4 seed in the North Carolina bracket and will serve as a host school for the first and second rounds of the 2009 NCAA Tournament. The 20th-ranked Terps will take on Monmouth on Friday, Nov. 13, at Ludwig Field at 5 p.m.

Maryland, which is one of 64 teams selected to play in the tournament, is making its 10th overall appearance and boasts a record of 12-5-2. The Hawks, 15-4-1 overall, earned their bid by winning the NEC championship.

We are obviously pleased to be hosting," said Maryland head coach Brian Pensky, who is guiding the Terps to their first tournament appearance since taking the reins in 2005. "It's nice to see our body of work rewarded by the NCAA Selection Committee.

"Every game at this point is going to be a challenge, and that starts with Monmouth Friday night, a team that has won 15 games this season. Krissy Turner does a terrific job at Monmouth - her record speaks for itself. This is the best time of the year, and our staff is elated that our seniors have the opportunity to experience this - they certainly have earned this opportunity through their play, their leadership, and their hard work over the last four years. Friday can't get here soon enough!"

The Terrapins have a 2-1-2 all-time record against Monmouth, but the two schools have not played since 1993.

The other two teams selected to the College Park pod were Villanova (11-5-5) and Washington State (13-5-2). The Wildcats and Cougars will play in the 8 p.m. game following the Maryland-Monmouth game.

The winners of the two Friday games will then meet in a second round match on Sunday, Nov. 15 at 1 p.m. at Ludwig Field. That winner will go on to face the winner of the Chapel Hill, N.C., pod which consists of No. 1 seed North Carolina, High Point, UNC Wilmington and Georgia.

During the regular season the Terps faced nine teams that made it into the 2009 tournament field, including six seeded teams. North Carolina and Florida State each earned No. 1 seeds, while Wake Forest is the No. 3 seed in the UNC bracket. Virginia Tech was named the No. 3 seed in the UCLA bracket. Boston College is the No. 2 seed Santa Clara earned the No. 4 seed in the Stanford bracket. Virginia, Duke and Loyola made the tournament as unseeded teams.
