COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland will welcome some of the nation's best this week when they play host to the 2009 Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Swimming and Diving Championships Wednesday through Saturday at Eppley Recreation Center Natatorium.

The Terps have had a solid campaign thus far, notching an 11-3 record overall and a plethora of stellar individual performances. Jen Vogel has been Maryland's most valuable swimmer up to this point, setting a Maryland and pool record in the 200 fly while leading the women to the 2008 Terrapin Cup title. Her 1:57.72 stands as the second-best time in that event in the ACC this season and puts Vogel in good contention for an individual title. In addition to the 200 fly, Vogel also has an NCAA B-cut time in the 100 fly (53.86), a time that is ranked second in the ACC and was also registered at the Terrapin Cup in November. Joining Vogel in the highly competitive 200 fly will be teammate Patty DeScenza, who has the third-best time in the event (1:58.17).

Senior Yelena Skalinskaya is another Terp with a legitimate shot at earning points for Maryland when she carries the ninth-best time in the 50 (23.20) and 100 free (50.71) into the championships. Annie Fittin also has a pair of solid times in the events, ranking fifth in the 100 (50.22) and 11th in the 50 free (23.27) in ACC play. Freshmen Ginny Glover and Alexa Hamilton give Maryland its best shot in the 200 free and 100 breast, respectively, as the pair's times are seeded 14th. Hamilton also has the top time for Maryland in the 200 breast (2:19.14) and is ranked 13th in the league.

Freshman Alisa Kurbatova and sophomore Montana Puente will vie for points for the Terps in 1-and 3-meter diving.

Thursday, Friday and Saturday's finals will be broadcast live via ACC Select. Parking for the 2009 ACC Swimming and Diving Championships will be available in the Stadium Drive Garage for $5 per day and includes in-and-out privileges. Stadium Drive Garage is located next to the Byrd Football Stadium. Handicap spaces are available in front of the Eppley Recreation Center.
