Twelve Terrapin athletes captured first-place finishes at the 2009 Maryland Invitational Outdoor Track and Field meet at Kehoe Track Complex Saturday.
Leading the women to a strong start in the first event of the day, Kristin Reed placed first in the steeplechase finishing with a season-best time of 11:05.45 and earning 10 points for the Terps. Freshman Ashley Hendrix tied for first place in the long jump, jumping 17-11.5. Tiffani Long also placed in the event, coming in third jumping 17-4.
In the women's 4x100 meter relay, Heidi Paul, D'Ambour Lewis, Alexis Booker and DeAnna Brown ran a collective 47.57 to place second in the event.
Ashley Williams led the group of throwers with a mark of 155-08 landing her in second place. Kristen Batts followed in third place throwing 145-09 while Jesse Echard placed fifth with a mark of 139-07. Williams also competed in the shot put, posting a second place mark of 42-11.00.
Legonn Haskins' time of 14.53 in the 110 meter hurdles landed him with season-best and first place finish, followed by Zack Ray who placed second in the event in 14.62.
Also placing first was Tommy Friscia in the 800 meters. Friscia had a time of 1:53.95, ahead of Mike Cator at second place with a time of 1:56.49. Zach Roth finished tenth in 1:58.53.
With her third-place finish, Ashley Hendrix finished with a time of 14.64 in the 100m hurdles. Katie Rogus, also competed in the event, finishing in 15.54.
Christina Nelson led the pack of runners in the 1500 meters, running 4:39.19 to place second. Lindsay Ritchings placed third with a time of 4:41.84 with Ashley Campbell running 4:49.74. Angeli Sivaraman, Kylynn McKinley and Melissa Mark also competed in the event.
On the men's side, Kevin Gahr ran 4:03.00 placing fourth in the 1500 meter with Alex Lundy finishing fifth in 4:03.14.
As the sole competitor for the Terps in the men's high jump, David Edwards-Brennan posted a mark of 6-6 placing him third.
D'Ambour Lewis placed first in the 100 meters with a time of 11.99. Alexis Booker came in at third with 12.23, ahead of Brittany Lee-Richardson (5th in 12.24) and Heidi Paul (6th in 12.28). Anthony Walker also competed in the event, placing sixth for the men with a time of 11.06.
In the 800 meters, Kelly Pry posted a first place finish running 2:12.16. Erin Matyus wasn't too far behind, finishing fifth in 2:13.76. They finished ahead of teammates Christina Nelson (7th, 2:17.82), Nicole Banker (11th, 2:19.97), Lindsay Ritchings (12th, 2:20.90), Tolu Olugbemi (16th, 2:21.84), Katie Rogus (17th, 2:22.47), Owade Ayorinde (21st, 2:23.69), Elizabeth Babcock (22nd, 2:24.36), Ashley Campbell (23rd, 2:25.18) and Melissa Mark (31st, 2:31.40).
Jason Allen jumped 22-11.00 to a first place finish in the long jump, ahead of Ray, who tied for third posting a jump of 22-03.75.
Jeremy Samuels competed in the 400 meters, finishing in third place with a time of 48.53. Freshman Chris Brown (7th, 50.15), Floyd Hawkes (9th, 50.62) and Kyle Rauser (17th, 51.66) also competed. Representing the women in the event, Natalie Goodman placed eighth in 59.58.
In the 400 meter hurdles, Zack Ray ran 55.5 placing third. Kiani Profit and Melony McKay competed for the women's team in the event. Profit placed first with a time of 1:00.88, while McKay finished second, running 1:01.42.
The Terrapin women finished first in the 4 x 400 relay. The team of Michelle Fedrick, D'Ambour Lewis, Kiani Profit and Melony McKay had a time of 3:47.78. The Maryland `B' team of Olugbemi, Goodman, Pry and Matyus took fourth in the event with a time of 3:57.81.
In the 200 meters, Brown also enjoyed first place honors with a time of 25.21. Teammate Brittany Lee-Ricardson finished seventh in 25.73.
With contributions from Chris Brown, Kyle Rauser, Tommy Friscia, Floyd Hawkes, the men's 4x400 relay team finished second with a time of 3:20.32.
The Terrapins will return to competition next week as the team heads the Florida Relays.
