Three Maryland players were named to the ACC All-Academic team. Senior Lori Bjork (Kinesiology), freshman Tianna Hawkins (undeclared) and freshman Diandra Tchatchouang (undeclared) all made the cut.
A total of 16 student-athletes from eight schools were named to the ACC Women's Basketball All-Academic Team. Duke led for the second-straight year with four selections, followed by Maryland with three and Boston College, NC State, and Virginia Tech with two apiece.
To be eligible for consideration for the academic squad, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.0 cumulative average during her academic career.
Bjork leads the team in three-pointers made with 71 and is top-two in the conference. She is also fourth in the conference in three-point percentage. The Johnston, Iowa, native has scored double-figure points 18 times, including a string of 13 straight. She is third in Maryland's all-time senior records for three's made and attempted. Bjork leads the conference in three-pointers made in ACC play with 38.
Hawkins has been an integral part of Maryland's success under the basket. As one of the lead players off the bench, Hawkins has posted 9.4 points per game and pulled down 7.4 rebounds per game. She has also recorded six double-doubles this year, second in the conference amongst freshmen. Hawkins has started in nine games for the Terrapins.
Tchatchouang is the second leader on the team in scoring, averaging 12.3 points per game. She leads all conference freshmen in scoring and is top-15 amongst all ACC players. She also leads first year players in rebounding in conference games. Tchatchouang leads Maryland in blocks with 41 and is fourth amongst league freshmen. Her 41 blocks make her third on Maryland's all-time freshmen blocking list. She has had 19 double-figure scoring games, the most on the team, and has started in all 28 regular season games, the only player to do so for the Terrapins.
ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the awards must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their career as well as a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters. The award is based 60 percent on academic achievement and 40 percent on athletic accomplishment.
