GREENSBORO, N.C. - Senior Carly Hunt concluded the first 18 holes of the 2010 Atlantic Coast Conference tournament in a tie for eighth after carding a one-over-par 72. As a team, the Maryland Terrapins sit in fourth place with a 15-over-par 299 at the Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.

The Terrapins are in the second round for tomorrow's round alongside Florida State and North Carolina State starting at 9:20 a.m. ET.

Maryland was in the first group today with Miami and Boston College. The Canes and Eagles finished the day in eighth and ninth, respectively. Wake Forest, last year's tournament winner, is currently in first with a two-over-par 286 with Duke and Virginia in a tie for second. Five teams are ranked in the top-30: Wake Forest (9), Duke (3), Virginia (13), Florida State (23) and North Carolina (26).

Although she started the first hole one-over-par, Hunt used three birdies to keep herself on course. The 72 is a season low-round for the Berwyn, Pa., native.

Sophomore Jessica Hollandsworth and freshman Christine Shimel are tied for 15th each with a three-over-par 74. Hollandsworth had the most birdies on the team with four, two on the front nine and two on the back nine. She was one of only two people to record a score less than par on hole three. The Floyd, Va., native remained even through most of the course but a double bogey on hole 17 set her back. Hollandsworth finished in the top10 last year at the ACC tournament with a 223. She has one tournament victory under her belt, having won the Palmetto Intercollegiate in the fall and has earned five top-10 finishes and two top-25 finishes on top of that.

Shimel had three birdies through 18 holes, including two in the first five. She remained even through the front nine and set herself up for a top-20 position finishing up three-over-par. Shimel has had two second place finishes and has led the Terps three times including at the recent Canes and Cardinal Classic. She is just behind teammate Hollandsworth with a stroke average of 74.44. Her best performance through 54 holes was at the Pinehurst Challenge where she carded a two-under-par 214 which included a season low-round 68

Junior Kerri Connolly is in a tie for 31st after an eight-over-par 79. She put in a stroke performance on the back nine, only going over par three times. Her best finish was at the Spider Fall Invitational where she led her team to first place finish and claimed the third spot herself. Connolly's low round is 71 and she is averaging 76.68 strokes per round.

Freshman Hayley Brown rounds out the field for Maryland coming in a tie for 35th. Brown birdied the second hold of the day and had a smooth ride through the front nine but got caught up in the back half. Brown most recently finished 16th at the Canes and Cardinal tournament for her third top-20 finish. Brown's low round of 72 came in the fall at the Napa River Grill Cardinal Cup in Simpsonville, Ky.

Wake Forest won the championship last season and look to reclaim the crown.
