COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
The Maryland women's soccer team won its second game of the spring Friday evening, defeating George Mason, 3-0. Goals from Sade Ayinde, Ashley Grove, and Amy O'Sullivan were the difference. And for the second straight spring game, the Terps held their opponent scoreless.
The Terps got on the board in the 28th minute when Caitlin McDowell fed a ball down the right sideline to Jasmyne Spencer. Spencer served an early ball to strike partner Ayinde, who collected the ball at the top of the box, beat a Mason defender, and blasted a left-footed shot into the upper corner.
The second goal came in the 50th minute when Amy O'Sullivan laid a ball down in midfield to Rachel Lamarre, who played a 40-yard diagonal ball in behind Mason's defense to an on-rushing Ashley Grove. Grove collected the ball and calmly finished the break-away to the lower left corner.
The final tally of the night came in the 85th minute when Olivia Wagner served in a dangerous corner kick that the Patriots failed to clear. Amy O'Sullivan took advantage, blasting the loose ball into the back of the net.
"Both of our games thus far have been exactly what you want out of the spring - to give lots of players the opportunity to play, and let them prove that they can help our team win games. It's not just about surviving on the field; it's about making an impact and leading us to victories. And I think our players know that," said coach Brian Pensky about the Terps first two outings.
The Terps return to action next Friday night when they host Georgetown at 7 p.m.
